Plans for two cancelled Pokémon games in Kalos discovered

Evidence for these files come from new generation seven Pokémon game leaks – evidently they never materialised.

This year has proved more leaky for the Pokémon franchise than an overflowing Polteageist. The trend has continued with the discovery of new 3DS files, primarily focusing on the seventh generation titles Pokémon Sun and Moon and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, spanning development years of 2014 to 2017. Not much has been dug out of the files as yet, but a key discovery has already appeared.

The above tweet states that source code from Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon shows other games that space had been ‘reserved for’ by Game Freak. From the naming, it is clear there were, along with the generation six titles Pokémon X and Y, two additional games involving the Kalos region!

Whether these games were enhanced versions of the original (ala Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon), or sequels is not known. But it is cool to see that at some stage there had been plans for another adventure through Kalos. One speculation is that these games were cancelled in order for Pokémon Sun and Moon to release in time for the 7th anniversary, which also coincided with a heavier push in marketing by The Pokémon Company.

What else do you hope will be found in this latest spat of leaks?
