A gameplay preview just dropped for Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Gathering items seems to be a key aspect, and you can distract wild Pokémon with Berries. NPCs can also make requests.

A gameplay preview has just released for Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Items are an important aspect we learned more about. You can use your own Pokémon to help gather Items from rocks and trees, and also use them to distract wild Pokémon, such as Berries. You lose some Items you gathered, rather than money, if you black out during your expedition. Items can be made via crafting, e.g. an Apricorn with a Tumblestone to make a Poké Balls. Smoke Bombs and Heavy Balls (more effective on Pokémon that haven’t noticed you, but harder to throw) are other craftable Items. We’ve also spotted the return of Exp. Candy S – different sizes like in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Hitting a wild Pokémon with one of your Pokémon’s Poké Balls can give you an extra turn in battle.

Trading has been confirmed to be possible with “other players” via the Trading Post area. Note that a “paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to enjoy certain features“. You can also claim Items with Merit you gain from doing Missions and Requests.

Customisation options are limited at the beginning of the game, as mentioned and shown in the video. Some more interesting options have shown on the official website…

NPCs back in town can give you Requests, which can be tracked from the Arc Phone. Examples include catching a specific Pokémon, gathering items, or fighting a particularly strong Pokémon. One feels a lot of design here is similar to that of the Monster Hunter games.

Some attacks have changed too – maybe due to styles, but Stealth Rocks now also deals direct damage when used! Psyduck’s Water Pulse in the video had no Style Scroll option either – perhaps you have to unlock it for specific moves?

The game is out in little over two weeks! What did you think of the preview?
