Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Version Exclusives and Trades

Find out all the Pokémon you can get or need to trade for, and where to get help from in-game trades during your playthrough!

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (USUM) have their fair share of differences. The most important for many players however are the available Pokémon. As always, there are Pokémon unique to just one of the two games, with a need to trade between games to catch them all.

While we’ve mentioned the version exclusive Pokémon in the Alolan Pokédex in our Pokémon Locations article, here’s a handy list for them all in one place! Evolutions for each of these apply.

Game Version exclusives Alolan Pokémon
Ultra Sun Alolan Vulpix, Houndour, Houndoom, Cottonee, Basculin (red stripe), Golett, Rufflet, Claucher, Turtonator, Passimian, Solgaleo, Buzzwole, Kartana, Blacephalon
Fossils: Omanyte, Anorith, Crandios, Tirtouga, Tyrunt
Totem-sized Pokémon: Marowak, Vikavolt, Ribombee, Lurantis
Ultra Moon Alolan Sandshrew, Electrike, Manectric, Petilil, Basculin (blue stripe), Baltoy, Vullaby, Skrelp, Drampa, Oranguru, Lunala, Pheromosa, Celesteela, Stakataka
Fossils: Kabuto, Lileep, Shieldon, Archen, Amaura
Totem-sized Pokémon:  Araquanid, Salazzle, Togedemaru, Kommo-o

The Totem-sized Pokémon are rewards for collection Totem Stickers. Fossils are version exclusive but all can be traded and revived on Route 8.

That’s not all however; there’s version exclusive Legendaries as well, and not just. These can be caught via visiting Ultra Wormholes in the postgame; keep an eye out for an article on that.

Game Version exclusives Non-Alolan Legendaries
Ultra Sun Ho-Oh, Raikou, Groudon, Latios, Dialga, Heatran, Reshiram, Tornadus, Xerneas
Ultra Moon Lugia, Entei, Kyogre, Latias, Palkia, Regigigas, Zekrom, Thundurus, Yveltal

Note that some Legendaries require having both version exclusives related to it; e.g. for Suicune, you need an Entei and Raikou in your party.

There are also a number of in-game trades to be made. They often include Pokémon that will be useful for Trials in the area, and have a maximum IV in their best stat. You can find these trades in the following locations:

Pokemon wanted Pokemon offered Location Level Held item
Spearow Hawlucha Pokémon Centre on Route 2 8 X Attack
Lilipup Noibat Pokémon Centre on Route 5 19 Brightpowder
Tentacool Barboach Royal Avenue 21 Pecha Berry
Trumbeak Arbok Pokémon Centre on Route 8 22 Balm Mushroom
Phantump Phantump (will evolve) Pokémon Centre in Tapu Village 33 Grassium Z
Granbull Shellos (West Sea form) North-eastern area of Seafolk Village 44 Waterium Z
Bewear Tauros End of Poni Gauntlet 59 Normalium Z

Hawlucha is one we recommend in particular in our Best Pokémon for USUM guide.
