Pokémon GO coming to Apple Watch

Pokémon Trainers have a new way to GO, exclusive to Apple Watch.

Pokémon Trainers now have a new way to GO. At the September Apple Event, Niantic’s John Hawke and Tatsuo Nomura were on stage to demonstrate an exclusive Apple Watch app that will complement the iPhone app.

The new app gives you a glance at the distance you’re walking. It doesn’t show you a map, and it doesn’t allow you to capture Pokémon. What it does allow you to do is receive a notification if it’s near, build up the distance you travel, and hatch eggs! The new app also lets you see how close Pokémon are, and grab items from nearby stops. To catch a Pokémon, you’ll still have to whip out your iPhone.

John Hawke also announced on stage that the iOS and Android app has not only been downloaded an impressive 500 million times, but that Trainers have collectively walked 4.6 billion kilometers. The game release has been quite big, and make no joke about it!

The app comes out later this month, coinciding nicely with the release of the Apple Watch Series 2. You can read more about it from Niantic’s Pokémon GO blog.
