6,000 players hit with online bans

The Pokémon Company has announced that 5954 online bans have been recently applied to players of Pokémon Sun and Moon. This ban applies to Game Sync, Global Missions and both  Rating Battles and Battle Competitions. The Pokémon Company also states that bans will continue to be handed out.

Banned players encounter an error message of 090-0212.

The following is a translation of the announcement:

Thank you for your continued use of the Pokemon Global Link.

We have detected some players who are using Rating Battles, Online Competitions, or Attractions, that the save data of their games have been illegally altered.

We will take the following actions for the 5954 players who we have detected are involved in fradulent action.

  • Random match rating battle will not be subject to trainer ranking aggregation.
  • Participation in future Online Competitions will be restricted.
  • The following features in affected games will be restricted:
    • Game Sync
    • Rating Battles
    • Online Competitions
    • Attractions

* In the affected games, the following message is displayed when you run Game Sync, or when you participate in Rating Battles or Online Competitions.

Regarding future players who have undertaken fraudulent actions, we will take similar measures on a regular basis. For players who continue to use illegal save data, we will consider other restrictions as appropriate and will execute without notice.

For the continued enjoyment of other players in the future, Pokemon Global Link will regularly monitor the use of illegal data and continue to respond to misbehavior and other acts that cause inconvenience.

The news comes after Pokémon Bank was updated to be compatible with Pokémon Sun and Moon, and Poké Transporter to allow for Pokémon from Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow to be transferred.
