‘Blind and Deaf’ challenge runs: A new way to beat Pokémon?

It turns out you don’t need sight nor sound to beat some Pokémon titles. Check out some playthroughs with a unique challenge imposed!

Turns out you don’t need to see or hear what you are doing while playing Pokémon games! There are many challenge runs out there, from Monotype runs (use only one type of Pokémon in your team) to Nuzlocke runs (if your Pokémon faint, you cannot use them anymore). A rarer challenge run has recently emerged: Blind and Deaf runs.

User bfrost97 has taken on this challenge with hardware on a couple Pokémon titles. In a Blind and Deaf run, there is no RNG manipulation allowed — it requires crafting a button sequence that can beat the game accounting for any possible randomness or choices by opposing Trainers. Give them a watch below!

First up is a run through of Pokémon LeafGreen.

Pokémon FireRed isn’t left alone either:

Next is a Blind and Deaf challenge run of Pokémon Crystal, where despite the horror of Bug Catcher Wade, bfrost97 beats both the Elite Four and Pokémon Trainer Red.

bfrost97 is now working on a Blind and Deaf run of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, after explaining the difficulties of trying to beat Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald this way.

What challenge runs have you made of Pokémon games? If you’ve shared them on our forums, let us know to feature your work!
