All the Pokémon news from the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct gave us some new Pokémon information – both for generation nine titles and some classic Gamecube adventures!

In today’s Nintendo Direct about the Nintendo Switch 2, we got a few pieces of information regarding Pokémon titles.

You can watch the full direct (just over an hour long!) below, but we’ll highlight all the Pokémon info – including news that didn’t make the Direct video.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Switch 2 Edition

The upcoming main series title of the year, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, has been confirmed to have a special upgrade available for the Nintendo Switch 2. This is purely a performance update (for now, no mention of new content was made). Enhanced resolution and framerates have been highlighted. It will be available as a physical and digital purchase. If you instead get a Nintendo Switch version of the game, you can upgrade it for the Nintendo Switch 2. You can see for yourself at this timestamp.

Free update for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

This was not in the Direct, but the generation nine titles Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are also getting a performance boost… well, maybe. The exact wording on this page is as follows:

Free updates to improve playability on the Nintendo Switch™ 2 system will be released for select Nintendo Switch games.

By connecting your Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet, you can download free updates that may improve performance or add support for features such as GameShare in select games. The contents of these free updates will differ depending on the game.

We’ll have to wait for confirmation on the contents of this free update given this vague statement. One does hope the game performs better!

Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD return!

In perhaps the most exciting announcement for fans, Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2! Customers of the higher tier of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will be able to play various Nintendo GameCube titles, and these two were highlighted.

There is no release date for these games as yet, but it’s great news for fans of the Orre games. It is also a great opportunity for players who never experienced these titles before. Curiously, this is announced before any potential Pokémon titles from the Game Boy Advance…

What was your highlight of the Nintendo Switch 2 direct?
