On FanGameFriday, we shine the spotlight on Pokémon games created by our very own PokéCommunity members. This week we’ll show off Pokémon Coral, a Pokémon Crystal ROM hack set in the custom region of Onwa!

Pokémon Coral is a ROM hack created by coraldev, runner up of 2018’s Hack of the Year competition.

Coral includes a brand new soundtrack and features to modernize gameplay such as the Physical/Special/Status split, Fairy-type, later generation moves and updated movepools for all Pokémon. You can also customize your character by choosing from a range of colours for your overworld sprite!

You’ll be able to choose from not three but six starters to begin your journey with, from the beloved Kanto and Johto regions. During your adventure you’ll be able to capture and train a wide variety of Pokémon, go Dodrio riding, investigate a haunted house, and explore the stunning scenery of Fairy haven Glint Grove and glittering Glint Cavern. You’ll meet an interesting cast of characters such as the eccentric Disguise Master and discover the motivations of Team Snare – will you be able to stop them in their tracks?

One of the greatest things about Coral is its take on the HM system – instead of having to waste valuable move slots, as long as a Pokémon in your party is capable of learning the move, they can use it in the overworld. There are even custom HM moves, such as Lava Surf!
