Heatran Appears in Pokémon GO

He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice. Gonna find out who did Groudon raids and who didn’t. ‘Tran’ta Claus is coming to townnnnn.

Pokémon GO‘s official Twitter Page announced moments ago that the final Legendary raid of 2018 will not be the Lake Trio as expected, but instead be long-time resident of Stark Mountain, Heatran.

Contrary to the theme of the rest of the winter event that starts today, Heatran is a Fire and Steel-Type Pokémon. That said, the latter does mean he will somewhat ironically be Weather Boosted in Snow (and Sun), so I guess it works?

Heatran has a massive double-weakness to Ground, so bring out your best Groudon if you have them. The old Ground-type staples Rhydon, Rhyperior, and Golem fit the bill nicely, but they are weak to potential Steel-type attacks, courtesy of their partial Rock-type. For those variants, consider other Ground-types such as Swampert, Flygon, and Donphan. Or, if you’re confident there’s no Fire-type attacks inbound, you can be especially cocky and use Torterra. Water-types such as Gyarados or Kyogre or Fighting-types such as Machamp are decent calls as well. Just don’t let me catch you using any Aggron or Tyranitar this time.
