[UPDATED] Pokémon GO Gyms live, Raid Battles releasing

Gyms have reopened worldwide with the new mechanics! Raid Battles have also just released to high-level players, with more access to come (level 20 and up currently). Check back as we report on the new changes!

Niantic has announced on social media that the new update for Pokémon GO Gyms is now live and ready to go! With the update available, Gyms are now back open for business. Be sure to update your app if you haven’t already done so, or else some features of the game may not work.

UPDATE: Raid Battles are available to Trainers above level 20 now. Other players can expect access over the next few days.

If you want to know more about what the update entails, be sure to check out our previous article about the update right here!

Updates: More details have been revealed!

From this report, Pokémon caught from a Raid Battle (even a Magikarp) may have good IVs. More data is needed however.

Feeding a Pokémon a Berry that’s defending a Gym for your team will net you 20 Stardust (for Razz, Pinap and Nanab Berries used), and could also grant you a Candy corresponding to the Pokémon you fed! There is an upper limit of 10 Berries fed to a Pokémon before it becomes full. Recharge time for that is not yet known.

Motivation decreases by 1 CP every 2 minutes. If a Pokémon’s CP is in red font, then another defeat will knock them off the Gym. It seems that a battle is still required to knock off a Pokémon.

How many coins can I earn from Gyms, you may ask? The system has already changed – you gain a coin for every 10 minutes a Pokémon stays in a Gym, and can gain a maximum of 50 coins a day. Previously it was one coin per hour minimum. Good work with the prompt change, Niantic!

You cannot feed Pokémon or add your own Pokémon to a Gym if it is being attacked now. You get two items from spinning a Gym, and potentially more when you level up the badge for said Gym. Each badge for a Gym can be levelled up, and progress can be tracked via your profile.

You cannot add a Pokémon to a Gym within 10 minutes of a Pokémon being knocked out. Keep attacking and you shouldn’t be interrupted from evicting a team from a Gym!

The Shop has been updated. Max Revives and Max Potions can be bought (6 Max Revives for 180 coins, and 10 Max Potions for 200 coins). You can also upgrade Bag space up to 1,500 items. Premium Raid Passes can also be bought now by players who currently have access to Raid Battles, and cost 100 coins.

Stay tuned for further updates as we get them!
