Solstice Pokémon GO event is live!

Pokémon GO is being overrun by Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon during the Summer and Winter Solstices this week!

It’s that time of year where Summer and Winter are doing their switcheroo, and Niantic are capitalising on this by hosting an event on Pokémon GO to celebrate!

UPDATE [as of June 20th 2017]: The Solstice Event has been extended for 24 hours! Didn’t catch what you wanted? You now have until 1:00 P.M. PDT June 21st to grab it!

Trainers, the Solstice Event has been extended 24 hours! It will now end at 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 21.

Expect hordes of Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon to appear between 1:00 P.M. PDT June 13th to 1:00 P.M. PDT June 20th!

From 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 13 to 1:00 P.M. PDT on June 20, 2017, Trainers around the world will discover more Charmander, Cyndaquil, Growlithe, Houndour, Ponyta, Swinub, Vulpix, and their Evolutions. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for Sneasel, Magmar, Cloyster, and other Fire types and Ice types!

Also, it’s time to get that throwing technique down, Trainers! Expect the XP bonuses for catching Pokémon with Nice, Great and Excellent Throws, as well as Curveball and Fast Throws, to be tripled for the duration of the event! This also applies to just catching a Pokémon. Hatching Eggs also nets even more XP during this event (5x the XP – so hatching a 10 km Egg grants you 10,000 XP!) and as a result Lucky Eggs are 50% off. Nice!

It’s time to perfect your Poké Ball throws, Trainers! Throughout the event, you’ll receive huge XP bonuses for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws, as well as Curveballs and First Throws. Additionally, as you walk around your neighborhoods or discover new sights, you’ll earn even more XP for hatching Eggs. To help you take advantage of these awesome XP bonuses, Lucky Eggs will be 50% off in the in-game shop.

This is the first of many updates coming our way from the team at Niantic, so watch this space! Let us know what neat catches you manage to snag during this event!
