New Pokémon GO Information released

Customisation, battles, and PokéCoins! It also seems we’ll start out with the first generation Pokémon in Pokémon GO.

The official Pokémon website has today released information on the upcoming mobile phone game Pokémon GO.

The highlights of this update include the news that we can:

  • customise how our Trainer character looks with clothing and accessories,
  • obtain achievement medals, and
  • take down Gyms of opposing teams with a friend.

You can also team up with your friends and battle at a rival Gym together to take down stronger Gyms faster.

The website has confirmed that there will also be a in-game currency that can be used to buy items, and real money can be used to buy said currency. It appears this is restricted to buying power-ups and extra items.

Pokémon GO will be available for download at no charge on the App Store and Google Play. Pokémon GO is free to play, with loads of fun things to do and Pokémon to discover at every turn. For players who want to enhance their Pokémon GO experience even more, certain items and features can be accessed via in-app purchases. Players can spend real money on PokéCoins, the in-game currency of Pokémon GO. PokéCoins can then be exchanged for power-ups, extra items, and other enhancements.

Gotta buy them all!

Another key takeaway point is that it appears, at least in the first version of the game, we’ll only get to use the first generation Pokémon:

Pokémon GO will allow players to find and catch more than a hundred different Pokémon as they explore their surroundings.

It seems unlikely that they would have mentioned only more than a hundred Pokémon if there were more than the first 151 to choose from. Let’s hope that further updates including more Pokémon won’t be too long after Pokémon GO’s release.
